Consider volunteering next year to help prepare tax returns
The Mesa Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program prepares tax returns free of charge for low and medium income families and individuals. We help them receive the maximum legal refund possible from both the state and federal governments. This includes the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) as well as other tax incentives available under the present tax regulations. We can also help them assess their qualifications for other financial assistance and put them in contact with the appropriate services.
Volunteer opportunities
All volunteer positions for the Mesa VITA program this tax season are filled. However, we will be recruiting volunteers for the 2013 (tax year 2012) tax season later this year. If you are interested in volunteering for next year’s program click HERE for an overview of the program and click HERE for a volunteer application. Contact Don Jensen at 480-834-2113 or don.jensen@mesaunitedway.org if you have any questions. All volunteers will receive training and must pass an IRS certification test before they can prepare tax returns.
Last year (tax season 2010) 78 volunteers contributed over 3,000 hours of their time to prepare over 1,800 tax returns for the people of Mesa and surrounding communities. Over $2.6 million was refunded to the people of our community as a direct result of their efforts. We invite you to join this program and contribute to the wellbeing of our citizens.
