LU Dr PanHOW DR. PAN LIVES UNITED

"Living in Communist China as a child we often had only one meal a day.  I knew what it meant to go to bed hungry.  I give to United Way because I know that my dollars stay right here in my community of Mesa, helping those in need."

"My name is Dr. Shouan Pan, President of Mesa Community College, and current Board Member of Mesa United Way and I LIVE UNITED."

About Mesa Community College

Excellence, in teaching and learning to prepare individuals for active citizenship in a global society, is at the heart of Mesa Community College's Mission. Since 1965, MCC has touched the lives of thousands of community members through its exceptional transfer, career, technical and community education programs.

Exceedingly qualified faculty provides students access to the latest theory and practice in their fields of study. The MCC faculty embraces research activities and professional development experiences outside the classroom that add to the rich knowledge base they bring to their students. In addition, interdisciplinary collaboration and experiences gained through study abroad, field trips, and internships, provide students with a deeper understanding of how their field of study connects to the world around them.

Service learning programs encourage community involvement and help clarify a student's career choice. Award winning performance arts programs and nationally ranked athletic teams provide opportunities to excel outside the classroom.

Passion for improving the quality of life in the community is evident in the partnerships they have established. MCC collaborated with the Mesa East Valley Rose Society to create a Rose Garden at the campus's north entrance. Ten years later, it is the largest rose garden in the desert southwest and is one of the 26 test gardens nationwide for the All-American Rose Selections association. Educational partnerships with Mesa Public Schools, Northern Arizona University, and MCC are helping to make the state's P-20 concept for education a reality. The creation of a P-20 Education Center, in the heart of downtown Mesa, demonstrates the college's commitment to providing smooth transitions from preschool to Ph.D. for the benefit of the students and the community of Mesa.
