Tax Help Given to Low-Income Earners

East Valley Tribune, April 6, 2010, Tribune Staff Reports

Mesa United Way has partnered with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance to offer free tax preparation centers where low-income earners can get help and maximize their benefits.

More than 74 trained volunteers are available to help low-income taxpayers maximize their refunds, Don Jensen, coordinator of the program, said in a news release. Low-income filers may not be aware they qualify for the federal earned income tax credit, which could mean a refund even for some people who paid no taxes.
